Here’s a list of what I’m reading or have read recently. Follow the links for more information.
- Plague Maker, Tim Downs.
- Faith Under Pressure: A Study of Biblical Leaders in Conflict, Michael S. Moore. He was my Hebrew Prophets professor. The man is amazing, he speaks like 11 languages and made the study of the prophets an unforgettable experience. The class completely changed my perspective on God.
- Theology of the Prophetic Books: The Death & Resurrection of Israel, Donald E. Gowan. Another classic from the Hebrew Prophets class. His observations on Jeremiah and the personal suffering that preceded the horror of Babylonian captivity are chilling.
- Unmasking Apocalyptic Texts: A Guide to Preaching and Teaching, Dorothy Jonaitis. An under-200-page, meaty volume full of rubrics, outlines and practic preaching and teaching fodder.
- Prophecy and Society in Ancient Israel, Robert R. Wilson. The dryest of the Hebrew Prophets field, it has become required reading since its publication in 1980. The research and footnotes in this 300-page effort are second to none in the study of the prophets, at least in the Protestant tradition.
